i dont know what exactly the issue is coming from my computer but when ever its running for more than 15 mins its start a loud whistle like whine coming from the back end of the computer.

some comp specs...

intel motherboard
core 2 duo e6600
nvidia bfg 8800 gt ocx
2gb ram
idk the size of the power supply it was from the first build when i only had a nvidia bfg 7900gt
2 7200rpms western digital raptor hard drives.

the computer was built about almost 4 yrs ago.

i would like to inquire some sort of opinions on the issues of the whine, and if possible some cheap solutions to update my computer to more current standards...

i went to school for web design and this computer is holding me back!!! lol thanks

Could be a fan dying, but it could also be your power supply. I believe old overstressed capacitors make a similar noise.

However, you should try opening up your computer and see if you can identify what component it is coming from. That way we can more accurately suggest how to fix it.

That could be several things. It could be the PSU, the HDD, or a fan somewhere in there. If you are comfortable, then take it apart and clean it out. If not, take it to a shop.

i did take it apart and cleaned it out all the fans are clean. my thought is it could possible be the power supply would be my guess....being as i upgraded my graphics card and they suggest i should have a 500w power supply to run it how ever i believe its lower than that. but i rele dont want to buy another power supply if thats not it?
