Hi, My GF wants to buy her mom and brother a computer for xmas. She wants to spend about $450 US with keyboard, mouse and monitor. The main functions will be regular web browsing and AIM. I will be purchasing the parts from Newegg.com. I was wondering if you guys could help me put a build together please? Thanks in advance.

I am not someone who is aware of the market prices though but seems to me $450 is a rather low budget, what do the others think on this? I understand it would be primarily function for the basic purposes as you said but yet it seems to be with this budget its hard to get a good build. Would be interested to know what configuration would it come out to be. Keep me informed.

Yeah, for $450.00 I would look at pre-built or retail machines!

She will be able to get a suitable machine for the light computer tasks they do.

6 gig ram..whats that for :)..editing movies for sony

Ha ha..:)

Well on the x58 boards running triple channel with the DDR3 ram--instead of previous configurations of DDR2 which are dual channel.

Running 6GB ram in triple channel on x58 is same idea as 4GB dual channel on a , say, x48.

If I had done 4GBx 6 for a total of 24GB...then yeh--I might be certifiable.
