my parents computer is going to shit, becoming out of date, and is pretty cheaply rigged up to work(ie: the video card fan went out so i have 2 80mm fans pointed at it to keep it cooled)

but anyways, would like to keep verrryyyy cheap. mainly used for internet, word, but sometimes has 15 tabs open, word, a dvd burning, and music playing, and their dual core isnt quite cutting it. i have monitor, os, keyboard, mouse, hard drive, dvd burners.

so basically i need a case, cpu, mobo, power supply, and ram. heres my list so far, anyone got better stuff for less? thanks

especially if you're not going for cutting-edge components, the outmoded stuff goes VERY cheap used. Mostly because no one wants 2 core anymore, or only 1gb ram cards, etc.
 
Phenom II 940 don't work on AM3 mobo.
Also, you may consider athlon IIx4 instead

RAM - better go for single stick of 2GB. the mobo you choose only have 2 RAM slots. getting 2 x 1GB now will mean you can't get another stick to upgrade in future.

meh i kinda want to stay away from athlons, no L3 chache, just not at good as a phenom II. i guess i can just find an am2+ mobo for around $50.
