low end parents computer

Time to get a new computer. They use their computer for web, email, and word/excel, nothing heavy. So I don't whether or not to go with a core 2 duo, i5/7 or something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813500027.

I have to buy a new hard drive, optical drive and ram no matter what mobo/cpu I go with so that is a fixed cost, ~$150. I have a good case and PSU already. Being that this is not a high end computer the price range is about $500. I made a system from the above mobo/cpu combo and its ~$400. core 2 duo system seems like it would be higher cost but it would be more powerful than an atom.

The computer is going to be at least a 3 year computer but I would like it to more of a 5yr computer. That is a matter of how much I want to put into it.

It will have windows XP home for now but may get win7 later on.

Ok. I was thinking it might be a cheap quick solution. I'll be going with StrangleHold's suggestion.

Looks good. I'll swap out the HD and optical for others I have selected. I'm not sure about the RAM though being that it has only one review.

You can always give your own review and contribute to the rest of the party. G Skill is pretty good when it comes to memory. I wouldnt sleep on Strangehold's idea. Least your parents will be happy with whatever you give them.

I checked out the list of G Skill ram and its all highly ranked so I can try that ram. It seems a bit pricey to me but I guess thats 4gb ddr3.
 
For a parents computer Kingston memory would be a better choice. Never ahd issues when i used kingston stuff.
 
I've used about every brand memory made over the years. Care to tell me how Kingston would be a better choice over G Skill?
 
I already have a 500gb HD to use so now all the parts + SH add up to $300. For that price I might as well throw in win7. As this is for parents computer should I go OEM/retail, 32/64 bit home basic/primum or pro
