hey guys.. im new to the forum as you can see... I built my own comptuer about a year ago.. and i have been having some FPs issues with it... my specs are in my sig... soemtimes when i paly cs my Fps drops to about 30 and there isnt that many people in the server...Can heat cause low fps? my computer seems to heat up my entire room =(... how can i fix my fps and what should i do about my cooling...

i have 3 80 mm fans in

Do you have your settings maxed out? And what resolution are you running?

My guess would be that when you hit a lag spike of 30fps, that it's when alot of objects are being rendered, and your computer cant handle it that well.

I run all things max and like anti aliaising is at 8x and the other 1 is at like 4x.. i run at 1024x768... i was just palying counter-strike and a kid had almost the same specs as me getting so much more fps.. and my comptuer should be able to handle it dont you think?

That anti anitializing is probably what was slowing you down and 'the other thing' is asniotropic filtering, i am guessing. BTW that was me on CSS playin with you.
EDIT: In my opinion anti anitializing is a wast of processing time, it does no special effects but smoothening the picture. However asniotropic filtering wont slow it down nearly as much.
EDIT AGAIN: My settings are high, no color correction (i think) and no anti anitializing.
BTW: I dont know how to add you on my steam friendlist.

it should with the specs you have it on (btw, the aa is 4x and the af is 8x ;)). The problem could be caused by heat, or by programs that are running in the background.

If you download Everest or SpeedFan, it should tell you the temp of your CPU. I would also recommend downloading ATI Tool, and telling us what it says for the temps.

The difference between AA off and on is a huge difference, when its off there are lots of jagged edges, i would try to keep it at least 2x.

AA can only go up to 6x, and AF can go up to 16x in CSS.

i have ASUS probe and my cpu is ****ing hot as a HELL it gets up to 75-80 C
Thats most likely your problem. I would take off the heatsink/fan, wipe off the thermal paste, and apply some new Artic Silver 5 to it. Also clean out any dust that accumulated in your case.

There are also ways of allocating system ram, to help out graphics...

use the -heapsize xxxxxx in the game start options.

use only 50% MAX of you system ram... so if you have around 2.0 gb of system ram use -heapsize 1000000

works very well. I run the fps test and run about 98.6fps

thanks omega.. i will be investing in some type of expensive cooling soon.. my cmputer heats up my entire room and its really loud.. i want a good water cooling system... hopefully heat is my problem thanks again

Honestly dont think your system needs water cooling, and I dont think you would be able to keep up with it if your system is already heating due to no air cooling.

Just get yourself a nice case with plenty of fan holes, fill them up, get a nice cpu cooler, and that should do it.
