Low Price PC Build

Looking to create a system, very low price as its not going to be used for gaming or anything too taxing. Its for the missus as we are finally getting broadband put into her house so i'm looking at getting a pc in so she can get surfing on the internet and also set it up as her sound system to replace a fairly paltry little portable CD player setup.

this is what I have at the moment, any suggestions as to places where I can cut corners/bring the price down?

I dont understand why you put a graphics card in there,if shes only going to be doing internet and basic stuff then theres no need for one.

with the money you save on gfx card get more ram :)

has bigger hard drive, better and bigger monitor, more ram :)

that particular dvd writer im thinking of ordering myself actualy to replace my IDE one :)

gone for the card because i might eventually hook pc up to the TV and stream video through from there, cheaper to get a blu ray drive for a pc than it is for a tv.

didnt think it was worth going for more than 1gb ram though as i doubt anything done on it will use more than that.

was considering a bigger monitor, up to 19" is prob only about a tenner more, hard drive should be more than enough at 80gb though i reckon :)

AMD for cheap non gaming

If you want a fairly fast PC for a low price go for more AMD....

I have a AMD A 64x2 2400+ 2,21GHz
2GB Kingston DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz RAM
an old computer case
ATI Radeon X1650 512MB
and around 500GB of storage....
an ASUS M2N-E SLI motherboard
and a 520W powersupply

cost me about $586 or £294:)

Maybe go for a cheaper screen instead of the Acer maybe a Viewsonic instead (may be a little cheaper)
A LITE-ON DVD drive also much cheaper mine work fine :)
