hi, i have a low profile cpu case :(
and im an occasional gamer of hl2, but recently i wanted to play fear so decided upon on getting a new graphic card. heres the problem: i cant seem to find any high performance cards in low profile form. ive spotted a nvidia 6600 and ati x700 low profile floating around on the internet, but i was wondering if anyone could find better?. i have a geforce fx5200 128mb vram, from winfast a340t (low profile)

thanks

thanks for replying, my budget is anywhere around 400dollars, and i think its agp , because in the computer catalogue where i got my computer from some more expensive computers have PCI Express in their specifications but mine doesnt :( - is there a definate way to find out though?

yep, i ran a benchmark and it came up with agp x8, ive seen geforce 6600s and ati x700's run at pci express x16? could my agp fit that? somehow?

so, the 6800 runs agp, but the lower brand 6600 doesnt? (just confirmation, im not too great at computers)

Both 66 & 68 comes in AGP form. Whether they fit in your case is another question though. Fear is a very demanding game, I wouldn't recommend any low/midrange such as the 6600 as it won't run the game other than with low res/details. Aim for the 6800GT if possible.

What other hardware do you have there?

um, a pentium 4 3.0ghz HT processor
1gb of DDR SDRAM
160gb 7200rpm
motherboard does 8x agp, geforce fx5200
i dont think theres a 6800 in low profile, i only saw 6600's..i was wondering..what about a case change? ive seen some really cool see-thru ones and they can fit any card...or a motherboard change maybe? to support pci-express x16 and buy 6600 low profile? what should i go for?

i really wanna get nvidia 6800gt or ati x800 - or even nvidia 7800 lol but just my motherboard and case limits it...what should i do?

before i go to sleep lol - can someone tell me what steps i should take to get a card suh as 6800gt? i have an fair idea that i gotta change my motherboard and case, but am i missing anything? if there is a 6800gt in low profile, with 8xagp that would be awesome, but probably most likely. and if i wait a year or so, would there be more cards in agp? such as 6800gt low profile 8xagp? or is it most unlikely cause pci express is kinda taking over now?
-btw, im probably overflowing with questions but, would a 6800gt in 8x agp form, run just as well as a 6800gt in pcie form?

Yes you can just change your case.

There isn't.

As you've got the AGP motherboard you don't have much other options than AGP, If you don't want to replace your motherboard. The AGP version will run run just as fine. Keep in mind though that a card in the 6800 class requires a fair amount of power. So check that you've got a strong enough PSU to handle the load.

so, with my current low profile and anything, i really dont have a new graphic card choice? unless i change cpu cases? aka. im stuck with geforce fx5200? --how much would a new mobo be, with the new pci experess and all out of curiosity? so i can have 6600low profile pci express without changing both motherboard and case :)

Well you mentioned Fear, and no low profile card that I know of will be able to handle that game very well.

thanks a lot for the help, ill look into changing a mobo and getting a 6600 (and scrapping the idea of fear) or changing both mobo and cpu cases and playing fear :D
hm i guess i could get a cpu case change and get 6800gt agp version on second thots...
