low profile video cards...?

whats up guys, i have a slimline series computer, and have found out that only a low profile card will work with my computer...

is there anything i should knwo about em before i buy one? im a pretty big cheapskate and im just trying to get something better than the one mine came with so i was thinking something like...

is that just an awful card or will it do everything i want (mild gaming - hellgate london)?

also, wheres the best place to buy ram? im lookin for 2GB 2x1gb...

That card only goes up DirectX 9... all the new games are Direct X 10. You won't be able to run those new games not to mantion that slimlines are nVidia Chipset and you picked out a radeon card. ... Crysis can play in DX9 :rolleyes: And if the most demanding game can do that, most likely every game can play with DX9 :rolleyes:

Slimline = Low Profile...

It doesn't matter if its DX10 or not. The cheapest WORTHWHILE DX10 card is $170... If all Low Profiles were nVidia, then why'd we just witness a ATI Low Profile card? :rolleyes:

The last part is slightly true, but it doesn't matter. Most cards are low profile anyways, except the ones with passive cooling.

Daisymtc has made a good point. Although ATI brand cards are great, their power needs can be quite great. Although I am running a HD3850 off of a cheap $30 PSU with no problem ;) (As long as the power supply is above 400W for that GFX, and with at least 18A on the 12V+ lines, you'll be fine.)
 
There really aren't many good low profile cards out there. The x1650 and the 8400GS is probably your best. Other than that there's the x1550's and the 7300's, which also is pretty poor in performance.
