Low refresh rate

After trying PC eye's suggestion (sfc /scannow) for a different problem, all my system files were put back to default, or something, and my display went to 4-bit colour after it installed Nvidia geforce4 as my display driver. I uninstalled that and got my colour back to normal, only now I have no display driver installed and my screen has a very low refresh rate - scrolling down internet explorer, for example, is very jerky. I'm not sure what my video card is or anything like that. Any ideas on what I need to do?

That has nothing to do with refresh rate, that is solely because you don't have drivers installed. Go to www.nvidia.com and install the correct drivers.

I should have said - any terminology I use may be completely incorrect. So what's refresh rate then if it isn't a jerky picture?

It isn't refresh rate, it's just your graphics card struggling. I am not sure exactly what it is called, or if there is even a term for it, but that is what the problem is.

right-click on the desktop
properties
settings
advanced
and in the top right you should see a tab with your graphics card.

It doesn't actually say, as the driver's not installed right. VgaSave is currently enabled.
