I have a G4 Quicksilver, which has been running with duel-hard drives. One 40 gb with the OS on it and another 40 gb for storage. I recently upgraded the 40gb storage hd to a 120 gb hd. The computer worked great the evening, I did the switch and everything seemed fine. I shut the computer down and did not use it till last night. I went to start the computer up and it acts like it’s going to load the OS up, but then it just sits there making a funny noise. I have had issues with the OS drive not booting up before, but after a reset it boots up. I myself think the drive final died, but I also think that’s a crazy coincidence.
I have an extra 40 gb hd, which I’m going to reload the OS on, but I just want to make sure that the current os hd is dead. I did diagnostic tests on the hd and it says the current os hd is ok, but I’m not sure if that means it’s recognized as being connected or if it is actually in functioning order. I’ve never really done a system restore or re-load on a MAC before; so all this is pretty new to me. Does my Mac have a bios like my pc?
Maybe a setting got messed? Who knows…
Any help would be great! (And all pins are correct on the hd’s)
