what you gona use it for!!!
this thread probably gona generate a lot of comments and people arguing, there have been a fare few threads like this before!!!
I am a windows fanboy, just because of functionality and you can do anything on it, especially with specs below!!
but i have this thing inside me about the macair (the thin one) really really want it!!!, but this was when it came out, now i think if you are really thinking about thin and fun and fast, the new touch screens coming out, namely Asus Eeepad EP121, and many others, with windows or android will have high battery life, very practical (when have windows) and specs and functionality of the device itself is very similar of a laptop!
back to OSs Windows 7 is the best OS produced by microsoft, less bloated, less resource hungry, more user friendly, still a bit more techi then the mac though, tweak a little setting there and here, more to go wrong, but more uses for it though!!
i will let the mac lovers to rip on my comments and give pros and cons on mac!!

No argument. I just follow what everybody else is using. I like Mac too though. Really depending on what your using it for. Want compatibility then Windows 7. On the other hand if using for graphics and such i would surely consider that also a Mac. I think a lot of professionals do. I never had one. Any graphics i did do at home works fine with windows. Nobody everybody ever questioned it, and said a great job. Mostly editing pictures. Compatibility with business is Windows, Never Mac, at least at work.

I am going to agree with Tlarkin. I am not a huge fan of their os (Just personal preference) but the quality of their laptops are great.

comparing

well. when comparing mac to ''normal'' pc's its not quite fair if you have a custom build gaming computer now is it.

lets say for once compare a macbook air(2 gb) to a normal samsung laptop
for working use and gaming use

the mac is smaller easier to travel with but lacks a bigger screen its fast and the keyboard is simply awesome for everything (just my opinion) the graphics are not super but they work fine.

and for the samsung
its a 4 gb with a 2.1 processor windows 7 (3 gb ram usable) 16'inch screen
keyboard is fragile and you are scared of breaking it when you type on it
graphics card is ATi MR 4330

what would you chose for school work/lil gaming small games only

facts and opinions!

Personally im a mac fan... but hell, i would neva buy a macbook air, but i would def. by a macbook instead. Their OS just as good as windows... its just a matter of getting use to it.

LOL,really?im glad thats just an opinion, not facts.

On paper they are superior as well in many regards. Laptops are built for mobility and Apple has the best performance to power consumption ratio out there on their laptops.

Well, Macs graphics cards only really do one thing, they improve gaming or rendering. However if you want to talk about pure performance Hollywood movies are cut, edited, and post produced on Macbook Pros. That is right a laptop.

Google just ditched all their PCs and went Mac. The military, NASA, government offices are putting Macs in their environment. Private businesses are also deploying Macs. Apple has a 25% consumer market share and about a 8% to 10% world market share. There is a reason a lot of companies/people are ditching PCs.

Also, hardware doesn't equal better performance always. It is software that really determines how well a computer runs. The OS and apps you run must be efficiently coded for your hardware.

On paper the Mac is superior in many ways. It's draw backs are windows only apps that you would have to dual boot your Mac, run WINE or a virtual machine to run, direct X, and of course preference. Some people prefer the lay out of Windows. Macs can run all Windows apps though, but you may have to dual boot. Developers like Autodesk are developing their apps (AutoCAD series) for the first time on the Mac. Why is that? It is because people are gradually switching.

I think Apple had like a 3% market share back in 2001 or so. Since they have have jumped to just under 10% market share. They are some of the most commonly sold laptops to college students. Apple has led in university sales for several years, though this year it seems Dell is going to out sell them, and well I mean 2010 since 2011 just started we have no idea how many Apple will sell this year.

Apple and Microsoft are fighting for consumers' Mindshare out as the two companies to upgrade their operating system later this year.Windows 7 essentially Microsoft's Vista, that many accounts of the company for a failure role was to prepare for maintenance release.

Mac laptops are aight, not a fan of how much they heat up though. They are however built sturdy and have great battery life. Not to say they never fail, they just don't feel cheap.

I only use OSX for Final cut pro. The OS itself is fine, I'm just not a fan of how it's laid out and how it works. There's pros and cons for OSX and win 7, but in the end I use windows 7 because I like using it.

i have very limited experience with macbooks, mainly for cost reasons i played around with one and i wasnt blown away with it but it wasnt bad no real pros or cons that i could see from the little bit that i used... i did however like how the touchpad clicks like a button.. dont know if they all do that or just that particular model i was using.

I have never used that particular samsung laptop so i cant say that i felt like the keyboard was going to break when typing on it like one user said. I have never type on a laptop and was worrying about breaking it.

If we are talking OS then i guess the biggest thing you need to look at is compatibility with the software you are going to run on it. if you are going to use it for basic office type stuff and internet either one will work fine. If price isnt the concern then i guess its probably just a matter of preference... if you throw in price im going to go with the pc to save some cash.

the 1 thing i hate about laptops is that you cant really build them (you can but its not cheap) so you end up getting a computer filled with crap software you dont want or need... that bugs me... i spend a few hours uninstalling trial ware. cant really blame MS for that though.
