Mac vs. PC for 3D animation?

I am looking for a laptop to take to college with me. I am double majoring in English and Animation, with a minor in either computer programming or psychology. I'm mostly worried about getting the right computer for the animation program.

This is the website:
http://catalog.etsu.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=1&poid=119&returnto=3

On their main page for digital media ( http://etsudigitalmedia.com/ ) it says that game group projects were mainly made with Maya and Unreal. It also mentions Color Ray for rendering, Autodesk, Adobe, etc...

So which laptops should I look at? I'm hoping to stay under $1500.

The computer I'm currently looking at is a Lenovo for $799, with an i7 processor, 14" screen, 8gb memory and 1tb hard drive. The downside to this one is it only has a 3.5 hour battery.

Any other suggestions?
Thank you!

I'd opt for PC, just due to the fact they are easier to modify in the future and Windows based OS will have a higher compatibility with applications than a Mac for any other programs.

I'd definitely go for a windows computer (macs are pcs too) simply because you can get way more performance/$. A $1000 windows laptop will probably have twice as much power as a $1000 apple laptop, and you have a lot more to choose from. But actually if you are really looking into making animations and doing some hardcore programming I'd get a desktop, simply because they are more powerful, and more heat-resistant.
