Hi, I would like your help choosing which computer to buy between a MAC and a PC..the want to use it for storing photos, and also for my studies. I want to study biophysics and I will like to know which one will be useful since I'll need to use softwares for my major studies in biophysics. So please help me choose the appropiate one.

Mac FTW. They have a bunch of Media software installed and since you do have photos you wont want a blue screen of death trying to organize them. I have a MacBook Pro and its the best thing I bought so much I did OSX 86 on my pc to run leopard.

Wait actually you should buy a dell like couse like like they have cuponsssssssssssss FTW!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with pcs or macs these days.

A pc will give you better specs for your money, a mac will give you (arguably) a more solid operation system, some pretty good pre-installed software, and a really cool looking computer.

If you're looking to buy a laptop I'd have a mac everytime. For a desktop I'd be more tempted by a pc (despite owning a mac pro, which is awesome but I'm still paying for it!), although the imacs are lovely.

Ultimately, it looks as if any computer will be powerful enough for your needs, it just comes down to whether you want windows or osx. And of course, all macs can run windows as well as osx, so you'd be completely covered in compatibility terms with a mac.

Another one of these stupid threads?? Seriously cant you make this decision on your own? This is just going to start a battle and your never going top resolve it!! End this thread right now.

This is his first post and he probably didn't search the forum. No big deal.

Jlpoveda3, disregard g25racer's post. There's plenty of mature people here that will help you make a decision. Personally, I agree with PunterCam, although I've never used a Mac.

Srry but im sick of all these threads! I agree with PunterCam too!! If your looking for good hardware then go with windows but if you are looking for a reliable running OS then go Mac. What are you looking to get out of the computer? Games, media, or basic computing? Budget?

First off let me dispel the myth that Macs have lesser hardware in them. It is a blatant lie and a farce. I have had this battle with many windows users who think this. No PC comes with all the built in hardware features of a Mac to begin with, so you have to automatically add on third party to put it on the same level, you have to add third party software as well.

Now, to answer your question it really comes down to preferences and needs. If your software can be ran on the Mac then by all means get it if you prefer it. Before I got my current job I was interviewing at Stower's Medical research firm, and they were hiring a Mac Admin because they were going to allow their scientists to run Macs instead of windows (they were given a choice now) to do their research. So, the Mac is definitely used in the science field. Unix is actually used a lot in the science field, and OS X is Unix based.

There are pros and cons to each system and I could very well go down and give you a detailed list, but that would take me a while to compose that sort of thing. So, what you need to do is find out which you prefer to use, then see what applications you need for your studies. If you can go either way and the applications are not for Windows, or Mac only then it comes down to your preference.

Ask specific questions and I can try to answer them for you.

^^^Thats kinda a biased opinion isnt it? He cant just listen to a Mac fanboy can he?

how is anything I said anywhere near a fanboy comment? Where do I say, OMG THOSE AER TEH SUCK LOL!!11!!one!?

Where do I say something like that?

I am not a fan boy, and I find problems with every OS I use, nothing is perfect. I do however have a bit of knowledge and know the differences and don't spread crappy misinformation.

There goes Kill Bill again going "OMG LIKE WINDOWS HAZ A MILLIONZ BSOD'S LOL!!!!!" just like an apple fanboy.

Thanks for your help, I actually was more inclined for a MAC since I have heard that it is faster than a PC, also I have noticed how people divide(use of other technical word) their hard drives and have Windows and OSX in the same computer. NOw the question is wheter Windows will work the same ways as OSX if installed on a MAC.
