Well, if you are out of warranty, then I would upgrade RAM. I believe that this will void you warranty, so be careful.

You should clear out temporary files and such as well. I have yet to find a program for this that is good though.

(Anyone have ideas? I liked CCleaner for windows...)

You can upgrade your ram and if you have the OS disc I would recommend you upgrade your HDD to a 7200 rpm. You will notice a bit of a difference.

Ram And HDD upgrades don't void MacBook Warrenties. The only time something was voided was Pre-unibody MacBook Pros when replacing their hard drives.

Pimp out the ram to 3GB if it's Core Duo and 4GB if it's Core 2 Duo and give it a bad ass 500GB 7200 RPM Drive. Since you have the Snow Leopard DVD judging by the MacBook Specs just backup your data and do a clean reformat.

it is out of warranty, so it doesn't matter.

if anything screws up, id be happy to get a new one :D

Can you upgrade a makes cpu? If you can you should go up to the 2.4Ghz cpu if you want to do a serious upgrade.

Upgrade the RAM, that is about all you can do to laptops. Then you can also make sure you have enough open disk space. Since OS X will cache things out to virtual memory on your HD so the more free space you have the better. Rule of thumb (not really a solid rule either) is 10% of your HD should be free space. So 10gigs for every 100gigs.
