Machine won't turn on

I have an HP desktop that won't turn on. When I turn it on it gives a constantly beeps and a red light under the power button flashes with the beeps. Any clue what this could be? Sorry there aren't too many details but that's all I know right now.

Edit: Beeping sound is gone (basically unplugged every cable inside the computer and replugged it, removed the cmos battery for 30 seconds and replaced it), and it seems like the computer is powering on just fine, but now the monitor won't turn on, it says no signal.

its weird though ebcause it sounds like the computer is starting up fine... no beeps or anything. just the monitor won't turn on.

well if thats the case, then it might be the monitor as well

Monitors fine, hooked up another PC right after and it worked no problem.

Try one stick of RAM at a time (if you haven't already).

yeah... after the beeps went away i wasnt worried bout the beeping, worried bout the monitor. but i just hooked it up again and the beeps started again. so i switched out the ram and bingo...

The computer was also never used... ever... hasn't even been set up yet, so I didn't think it'd be a RAM issue...

i had a simular problem...the computer would "turn-on" the fan and everythink working, but the screen stays black.
Unplug all your drives including the hard drive, try separate ram sticks (or better, a tested stick from another computer), use your onboard video card to eliminate as much hardware as you can and use a working Power Supply Unit (at least 400W).
If you're able to get to BIOS, plug one piece of hardware at a time and eventually you'll find the problem. Otherwise, as it was stated above, you may have to get a new mobo.
good luck
