macintosh Vs windows

:-).. I just wanted to also mention because it was mentioned that the recycle bin was originaly a Windows function that was copied by Mac... Windows also does a fair bit of copying themselfs such as built in zip archiveing which I originaly saw on Linux as well as grouping tasks in the task bar. I think they all do a little copying of ideas.

First of all I think nobody mentioned Linux because here we're talking about working on computers, not just playing around. Linux is a very good OS, but when you want to do some professional audio/video editing, DTP, CAD, etc., etc., you must go either Windows PC, either Mac.

I hate that task grouping in the taskbar, so I disabled it. I don't like built-in zip archiving either. These are just some fancy nonsense add-ons...

I agreed with you right up until the zip archiving part. since most things you download are either .zip format or .rar format I think it's much better to have it integrated then to actualy have to instal a program such as winzip or winrar.

And as far as acutaly working with computers and linux you must agree that alot of people use the computer for word processing and checking email and web surfing and not much to not at all of the Audio/Video editing anyway. So in the windows 98 days I think linux was better for "Working on computers" for it's stability, assuming you where not Video/Audio editing of course ;-).

How about this: it's hard for a computer to crash if you only do word processing and checking e-mails (assuming the system is virus and spyware free). I bet Linux would crash several times per hour if you could run some really serious software on it. Just look at Macs - the MacOS X is Unix-based, so it must be very stable. But it's not...

I'd agree but unfortunatly Win98 would crash for the dumbest reasons. Example: open up messenger and crash. Just one of many little annoying things it did. Lets face it Win98 was unstable and needed alot of tweaking to make it more stable.

I dont know what serious software that could be run as far as Audio/Video editing goes because honestly I did not try but I did run Dreamweaver MX and Flash MX which to me was serious software and yes they where windows versions running under Mandrake linux.

Our processors have the data go in them, get processed, turn around, go back. Apples processors have the data pass trough them, so the data isnt sent back
Whoa .... without resorting to a 1st course on computer architecture I can tell you ... thats a very inaccurate description

.
Also, Windows is an excellent platform for development as many, MANY tools are provided by MS and the OS :)

IF YOU PEOPLE WANNA TURN THIS INTO A LINUX DISCUSSION -- MAKE A NEW THREAD.
