MacOSX kernel problem

How do you fix a kernel problem message on startup of a mac? I read about kernel panics and it could be one of them. It happened when Brother printer software was installed and the system was restarted.

if my experience with cough**cough**.. it's not only printers , can be a system administration gone wrong, but those are often fix with the tiger dvd and a few commands, just like recovery console from winxp.
tlarkin can give you a better description though
