Flash Player 7 Wont Install or Run

Gee Im always finding possible solutions somewhere. Try the method outlined in

"Flash Player 7 Wont Install or Run

Ran into this problem last week and after many attempts to repair and
update Internet explorer the problem was actually the active X
components. First I had to uninstall the Flash player and all previous versions
(see link below)

http://www.macromedia.com/support/f...s/playerfaq.htm

This error appeared to be caused by the "kill bit" entry installed in
the Windows registry. Normally this entry is created by an ad/pop-up
blocker installation. Uninstalling the pop-up blocker did not remove
this registry entry

There are two ways of removing this

1. To manually remove the "kill bit" entry from the registry, look for
the following registry item:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX
Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}\

This is the entry that causes Flash movies to fail in the browser.
Delete the compatibility flags entry and restart Internet Explorer.
Flash movies should then appear in the browser as expected

If you are not comfortable with editing the registry then (Download
the Flash Player standalone installer) at the following link.

This should solve the problem" http://www.pcbanter.net/t391262.html

http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/ is the main support page for all versions. To enter the system registry is to do so with caution. You simply type "regedit" at the Run prompt off of the Start menu for the editor window to open once you press the enter key. The registry is broken down into what is called "branches" and "hives". To remove or modify any value whether it be a string, binary, or DWORD you highlight that value and go to the edit dropdown menu on the explorer bar on the top left hand side. You can also create new values even registry keys with the same menu.

According to the instructions given you would first locate the hive known as the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" just as it is seen here and open each branch like you would a sub folder inside another subfolder until you reach
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX
Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}\"

The value above is the one to remove. But you first have to verify the exact spelling and every character before removing it to avoid deleting the wrong one. The best thing to do before making registry edits is to first make a backup copy of the current registry in case it's needed. How to do that?

"1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate and then click the subkey that contains the value that you want to edit.
4. On the File menu, click Export.
5. In the Save in box, select a location where you want to save the Registration Entries (.reg) file, type a file name in the File name box, and then click Save.

Back up the whole registry
To back up the whole registry, use the Backup utility to back up the system state. The system state includes the registry, the COM+ Class Registration Database, and your boot files.
