Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven Query

Hi everyone. I’m wondering if someone can help me out with this very annoying problem I have. I went to reminisce with the game Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven on my new computer. The game works fine except for sudden pauses (that last about a second or two each time but occur frequently, kinda like lag) and, the far more annoying, graphical issues. The graphical issues only occur when the game creates some kind of effect (smoke coming off tires, gun fire, shades of grass being ripped up when driving over it). Red and green lines scatter all over the screen and is really annoying. The computer I have now is far superior to my former one (which ran Mafia perfectly), but it could still be hardware compatibility. I’m desperate to make this work as this is a fantastic game. Here are my specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
8GB RAM
Intel Core i5 2x 2.3MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M 1GB dedicated memory
If you want to know anything else then just ask. Thanks for reading, and I hope to get some responses soon!

have you try running in compatibility mode? I dont think it's a hardware problem. Many of these old games have trouble running on newer windows. Some of them have fixes for that, you could try finding it.

Hey man, thanks for responding. I already tried compatibility mode, which is how I got the game to work in the first place. I've spent hours and hours trying to find the answer to this, hence me resorting to a forum. I thought maybe my graphics card is too powerfu or something. I'm very desperate to get this fixed so please, continue suggesting things! Maybe a link to a patch or something. I'm running the latest version of Mafia (v1.2 I think). Anyone?
