MAJOR Cable Management Issues

As a result of just adding hardware willy-nilly, I have come to realize that I have some major cable management issues:

As you can see, everything is everywhere. I've got a pack of small plastic ties from RadioShack, but I'm not even sure where to start. I'm going to be switching out the motherboard soon, and I think that I might as well just take everything out and start from the beginning, tying down cables as I go.

Any helpful suggestions are welcome.

You're right, take everything out and re-start, I've kept mine up as I go along, it should drop the temperature slightly if done well enough.:)

You could try routing some of the power cables and data cables behind the motherboard, in between the mobo tray and the case side.
It's a bit difficult to recommend stuff to you becuase you have so many drives and crap in there. Normally you could the ties to attach some of the cables to the case in between the drives, so they're mostly out of view, but you can't really do that. Best bet is my first suggestion. Other than that, tie together cables that are going to common places. For example, if a few data cables and a power cables are going from the top of the case to the bottom, tie them together. Or if a few cables have to go across the case(power for the optical drives, etc) tie them together and to the top-ish of the case.

Like I said, I already have the ties, and putting cables behind the mobo kinda sounds like cleaning your room by stuffing everything under the bed, but I'll see if I can't apply it in some way... thanks for the suggestion.

i wouldn't suggest putting cables behind the motherboard, it will just cause problems if you want to change hardware later, not to mention the increased heat buildup. Also the cables might get scraped up back there from the pins on the underside of your board. It's best just to use zip ties to attach them to other areas of the case.

It would be behind the mobo tray, so it wouldn't be directly touching the mobo, but I still don't really like the idea.

ah, yea that'd be a little better but i would still think it would cause problems if you ever need to install new hardware that might require you to get at some of those cables.

You can't have both. Choose being pretty, or being easily accessable.

...that doesn't quite make sense...

As I have it now, it is a PAIN to change components, and all the wires are clumped together. If I got everything organized, I'm sure it would be much more accessible. All I'm waiting for is for the I/O shield for the motherboard I'm going to use to come in the mail.

So, it's just the things that's between the MOBO and the case... right.

Doesn't a MOBO normally come with one of them anyway?

It does, unless it's an open box or recertified item. In my case, I bought a computer off of a guy, and I'm going to use that motherboard in mine, but for whatever reason, he never put an I/O shield in.
