Major computer build problems

this is the first time ive ever put together a computer. well actually i didnt really put it together a friend did who has done it many times before and well...it doesnt turn on now. we put it all together got everything mounted to the case and fire it up turns on fine boots up. gives us a floppy disk error but its because i dont have a floppy disk drive so w/e. then after a min or so it crashes and he just says "its probably just because you dont have an OS once you get windows in there it will be fine". so he then powers it on a couple more times and takes pictures of it while the LED lights are on and then we pack it up and take it to my house.

i had it sit here for about 24 hours while i waited for my windows CD to come in the mail. i did turn it on a few times just to see how silent it was and see all the pretty lights. well windows finnaly gets here and i power it up open up the disk drive put vista in there and then it crashes before the disk drive could close. i power it on again go to the bios settings to prevent it from crashing then exit without saving and it crashes again. i try the same thing agian but this time it started to install windows. it got about 1/3 the way and then turned off. now whenever i try to turn it on it doesnt do anything. just makes a little noise like the powersupply is trying for a sec and then nothing.

there are 2 lights on the motherboard that i should point out. one comes on as soon as the computer recieves power and stays on a few sec after i cut the power from the board. it says STBY PWR. the next one comes on after i press the power button and stays on until i cut the power and then it turns off but wont come back on again until i try and power the computer up again. its says MEM PWR.

now unfortunatly after we turned the computer on and saw it worked (well thought it worked) we threw all the boxes away so returning most of the parts may be hard because newegg wont take it back without them. but here is a list of everything.

P.S. the water cooling unit was running at all times when the computer was turned on and even most the time when its off. and im 99% sure it was installed corectly. there are no leaks with it. also my friend came by today and took a look at everything and while i was on the phone with EVGA i think he was checking to make sure everything was plugged in correctly, which it was. EVGA told me to take everything out of the case and off the motherboard except the CPU and see if it worked, then from there add components until i could figure out exactly what was wrong. also he suspected it could be the CPU.

It can't be the cpu -_- unless he's so stupid that he bended a few pins which would make you really mad cuz intel nor nobody would fix it or buy it.

My theory is the mother board may be defective or the power supply is defective

im suspecting the motherboard but i really dont know. sucks because the computer im using right now is 7-8 years old and doesnt run any decent game anymore while ive got this amazing machine right next to me that wont turn on. im almost to the point where i want to take it to a computer shop and have them fix it, its just ive never EVER had to go to a computer shop for any kind of repair.

Before it crashes what do the lights on the motherboard say?
Does it beep?
If so how many times?

Sounds like PSU going bad. Also you may be still getting a tiny leak. Re install your cooling. Had a friend that had water cooling and it keept shutting down and burning up his motherboard. He never found the leak until he remove the cpu block and found that a tiny leak was causing all the problems.

Have you tried to reset the bios? Sounds like the board or P/S. Not a big fan of Rosewill. Did you put the standoffs under the board correct? Did you plug in the 8 pin CPU power connector? Did you plug the Video card power connector in? Have you tried it with just one stick of memory?

well i called EVGA about getting a replaced baord and they were supposed to email me telling me they sent it out and what not. suppose to be 48 hours at the latest and its been 3 days. gonna call tomorrow and bitch. i hope its the motherboard and not anything else because i ordered everything about 2 weeks ago and its all got 30 day warrantys. if i go past the 30 days cant get anything returned. really sucks. i think i may have to call everyone up and get replacement parts for just about everything. pretty sure my PSU is good though. not positive but i dont think thats the problem. its 950 watt and its running running 1 fan +the computer. it shouldnt be overloaded or anywhere close to it. another friend of mine said it may be the hard drive. does anyone else think that could be the case?

No, most likely not the hard drive. I would place my money on your powersupply. Another user mentioned for you to clear your CMOS. If i were you, i would. Sounds like by now, you've memorized their number. So if you don't know how to reset you rCmos, then i would call EVGA.

Then you said you're getting a replaceement board. That's cool. But that's why i said the power supply might be an issue. I never had a psu problem, but i've heard some pretty funky things about rosewill more then any other power supply company. You should just go ahead and try another power supply.

How about this?
  • Take out the power supply in the fast computer
  • Also take out any stuff that you don't need to turn on the comp and install windows
  • I know you have water cooling, so just take of the cpu block, and install the heatsink that came with it (hope you bought CPU retail)
  • Then take the weaker PSU in the computer you're using right now, the one that works, and use it to power the new rig, if the rig powers up, and you can install windows, congrats, you need a new PSU

Yea, you should have your heatsink fan combo.

cmos has been reset, something EVGA told me to do. the problem with the powersupply on the computer im using to type this is im not even sure it will fit the board or anything. this computer is about 8-9 years old and was average when it was bought. i think im gonna talk my friend into bringing his comp over and putting his PSU in when the new board comes. i cant be calling every manufacture and having them replace their parts. im really hopping the new board fixes it but if it doesnt i need to know what will soon or im gonna be digging into my pocket again.

but this really sucks. im sitting here with a REALLY nice computer next to me but instead i gotta use something that even gets lag spikes when im typing. as far as how slow it is. i run WoW on min settings with no more than 25fps.

explain more?? :confused::confused::confused:

Plugging up everything WITHOUT the case, and seeing that everything works before putting it in the case.

Did you make sure that you use the correct number of standoffs, so that its not grounding the motherboard?

Try removing the 4pin connector and see if it powers on.

we didnt do that when we first installed the bored but we did after we knew it wasnt working and well....it wasnt working.
