major problem

First I would like to say I am pretty much useless when it comes to computers.
That being said, I tried searching but didn't find much info.
My computer:

My Problem: Started to run slow. Maybe 15-20 seconds to load programs and some times it would freeze. Then one day it restarted while I was at work and wouldn't start windows. That is when I did a recovery. It said the system check failed and it couldn't install google. It seemed to be working fine and fast as when I bought it for maybe an hour, then it would freeze and take 15-20 minutes to load anything. Now it will not start at all, it gets to the windows is starting screen then the screen turns black and won't boot up any further. While it was working I ran an avast scan and a malwarebytes scan and both came up clean.
I'm not sure if this is the right section or not but any ideas?

Have you tested the hard drive to make sure its not failing?

I don't know how to do that, is it something I can do or should I just take it into a professional?

What is the brand of hard drive?

I don't know what ever came factory, it's a laptop so I'm not sure how to get to the hard drive to see either

Go into the device manager under drives and list the model number.

I can't even get to my desktop anymore. I'm using my moms computer to type this.

Have you tried booting to safe mode?

yeah I've tried safe mode. Tried recovering it again. Pretty much everything I can think of and it's a no go.

Can you see HDD in the BIOS?

I can't get my computer to start at all

When you turn on the computer, does it do anything? Does it beep or put up the manufacturer's splash screen?

it shows vaio then goes blank and won't go any further

Disconnect the hard drive and see if it boots normally, you should get the message operating system not found... If you get to that point, you have a bad hard drive.
