Major System Recovery Problem

Hey my computer was running VERY badly so i decided to do the HP System Recovery that came with my OS (XP home). I chose the option that is supposed to restore all of the applications, drivers, and the OS, WITHOUT removing my data files. When it had finished, i booted up the computer and all of my programs were still there, and my whole My Documents folder was empty!! My Shared Documents folder still has all its files. Also when i right click my C:/ it says that i have used 28.4 GB (the amount that i had used before the recovery), but whn i go into C:/ there is only about 9 GB of files in it.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated. I have a lot of unreplacable files that ive created since my last backup

This is why your ment to back stuff up before attempting to do this. I suggest you set the "see all files and folder" inc hidden ones and do a search for a file or folder that was in you Documents.
