making a computer for college.

Im about to go off to college and I would like to buy a gaming desktop for when I do. I've got about $1,000 to spend on this computer. What do you guys think I should make?

Btw, I have no idea how to overclock anything and I know next to nothing about the differences in motherboards, processors, and the like; so if your suggestion involves any work on my part besides ordering specific parts for the computer (which will be prebuilt since I don't feel comfortable about doing it on my own) can you point me in the right direction?

Most everyone will say to purchase the parts and put them together :). I'd strongly encourage you to put it together yourself. It's quite easy, and is a great experience!

As to sites to buy computer components, here are a few:
newegg.com
tigerdirect.com
zipzoomfly.com
etc
