Making a DVD that plays on a player

I have only used DVD's for storage and have never needed to burn one that plays on a player, how do I do it?

Get ImgBurn or Nero. I like IB better as I'm more familiar with it. It can handle booktyping as well. Open up your folder with the iso files and burn them at 4x. Very easy to do ...

I have AVI from a friend, he wants a basketball highlight reel.

WinAVI is pretty good at making DVD playable discs.

You could also go to DTF http://forum.digital-digest.com/forumdisplay.php?f=43, but they are pretty big and Loco can help you faster.

On a couple of occasions with my computer, burned DVD's wouldnt play in a player unless they were DVD+R, but this may not be the same for everyone.

Well, some players only play DVD+R, some only play DVD-R, and some don't play burnt DVDs at all.

I use DVD-R, the only way i know to burn it so that it works is the same way you would create a "data" disk.....works for me

You all could try booktyping. Makes the +R disks work with the -R players. You can do that with ImgBurn very easily.

Generally DVD-R is more compatible than +R, that is the impression I get when I test it on some drives.
