making a login system

I am in th middle of making a txt based gaming website and am having massive problems making a login page where anyone can sign up, set a user name and password and enter the site with that.

ive searched the net but with little knowledge about this am becoming very confused with everything!

is there anyone or any simple programs that can help????

Check www.bravenet.com and look at their password protect. I believe it requires login with a password and might be what you looking for. Its free also.
