Hey guys. I am going to be making a webpage with iWeb on my mac. After I have finished designing it, how do I get it online?

Also, any tips?

Apple, naturally, would prefer you buy their webhosting service .mac (or whatever its called now). It's (probably) over priced if you dont need it's other features or already have it.

When youre done designing, click the file menu. Then there is publish to .mac (or whatever) and publish to folder.
If you have the other webhosting (that omega is talking about), youre going to want to hit publish to folder. Then upload the contents of that folder to your host using FTP software (such as cyberduck).

You could also poke around in the export menu. Im not sure whats in there (don't have the program with me)

I'd recommend trying using Mozilla Composer for making your web page, it is open source software so it is free to use and very easy. You can figure out how it works just by tinkering with its features.

To get your website online you'll need to have a webhost. I recommend using www.000webhost.com because it is free!

To get the website files online you have to use a FTP (file transfer protocol). Mozilla Filezilla is a good free piece of free FTP software you can use. As far as specific instructions on how to use it, you can find those on Google but it is pretty simple and easy to learn.

You need to sign up with a hosting company, which typically charges a monthly fee.

Is there a way to host with my own old computer? I have an old desktop siting at home that is working, just no one uses it.

It is called MobileMe. It's like 100 bucks. What host should I use for free that I can upload to?

I have used webs.com before, but I have never seen an option to upload to it. And I have uploaded files to a FTP, but never published a site from there.

How do I upload to a host and have them publish it? Anyone have a good tutorial?

If you'd like to host it with your own computer, you can just google how to.

As for free hosts, I think x10hosting offers it free still, but it doesn't seem as good as it use to. But it had quiet nice features.

most economical is a free subdomain from a company that offers a bit of free space. they'll usually have bandwidth limit and display a banner. it will be slow.
you can host with go-daddy if you're registering a domain with them, or there's companies like www.wise-tec.net that will give a low price on 250mb server space, and include your own cpanel account with email and domain name subscription (if you're looking for www.something.com/net/ca/etc)
to answer your question - once it's made upload the files to the web root directory (public_html in cpanel servers) and your site is live!

OK thanks you guys. I am going to work on it, and once I have it done, I will probably have more questions. Thanks so far though.

Im sorry i had to go half way thogh setting you up.

I didn't realise the time :D

Well you should now have the domain you want so post it here and ill set up you an account manuly on a premium package :)

I use Lycos Tripod (now Multimania). At the time I only needed server space for my CODUO server but a few years later I made a HTML pure website.

Multimania is free and offers (I believe 1GB) of free online space. It took me a few years to figure out how to get my website on the internet but it's simple with hindsight. The URL would be rather crude and I don't know how to simplify that.

I could get you a free hosting account on my website. I am starting my own web hosting company. Currently my website is under construction, and I have my college exams on my head, so I will be finalizing my website in next week. But I can still create you an account.
Goto the my website, www.mechaeagle.com and contact via the email submission form.
The countdown timer on my website is server depended, so it will probably show weird remaining time.

Infact, you will be my first customer.
