Making an external HD into an interal HD

I was hoping someone out there could help me out here:

I have an external drive that uses USB to connect to computer, one of the little prong thingies broke off from the external USB drive rendering it useless. I asked a bunch of people this already and no one believes that it can be fixed unless you start saudering a new USB port onto it, which wouldnt really be worth the effort. My question is can you just take the external drive apart and swap it into an internal drive slot on a computer?
Thanks for you help.

The question is will you be able to connect the hard drive to the pc via molex and IDE/SATA and then fix it to the case. With external hard drives generally one or more of those things proves more problematic that it's worth.

Are you able to open the external HD up and take out the hard drive?
why wouldn't you be able too? It should be a standard hard drive with a frame around it

Wait till some stupid company decides to make a rubber encased one (not that it wouldnt be possible) it would just be harder :P

Yes I can see it now - the Maxtor OneTouch Sport Edition, water and shock resistant :P

I don't really care what the case is made out of :P, when you cut it away there's still a standard harddrive in there :)
