making antec 900 quiet....

Alot of us have the Antec 900 which has good airflow but pretty lousy noise dampening. Whenever I put my comp to sleep it never wakes up properly, lol, so I now want to leave it running constantly. But it it too loud. So does anyone have any tips for making it quiet?

Right now I have all the fans on low as well as two more Antec Tricool fans on my CPU cooler, both on low. When I turn off the fans on the CPU cooler it is REALLY quiet, but for some reason with CPU fans, it creates a sort of wind tunnel. Just so much air going through that you hear a whooshing noise. I have it in a cabinet and so the whoosh seems to get amplified a bit also.

So yeah, if you have this case please share your setup and whether or not it's noisy. Any tips would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

well ive got the two fans upfront (full speed) one one the back (full speed) the one on the top (slow) then i have psu (slow until gaming) then gpu (slow) then water pump (full speed)

i can tell you that it is loud as hell for me but i dont care because it is in my spare room!!

people who want a quiet case dont get the antec900 because it is designed for cooling without the noise consideration!

the only way to make it quiet would be to drop the number of fans to bare minimum-1 intake and 1 outtake and put them on low speed

Try getting sound isulation. My friend has some in the trunk of his car so that it doesnt rattle his trunk and make his subs sound like crap. Buy some of that stuff and glue it to the inside of your case. Just google sound insulation.

First of all, if it is an enclosed cabinet you might want to take it out, because you are preventing airflow. My Antec 900 is extremely quiet, so it's probably your CPU cooler.

yes that would be a good idea

Let's see, set all the fans on the 900 to low, that would make it relatively quiet. Get a nice passive heatsink, something like the Scythe Inifinity or Ninja and run it without a fan. Grab the Arctic Cooling Accelero for the graphics card and run it passively. This should make the case somewhat quiet.

I just purchase a antec 900 on a new build and today is the first time hearing it. I have a total of 8 fans and can tell you it's quieter than my 4 year old P4 with 4 fans. I do have a fan controller on the antec maybee this helps, but all fans going full speed is not that loud to me... JMHO....

Thanks for the input... I switched out some fans and now its quite a bit better. I did have all the default fans plus 2x 120mm Yate Loons on my heatsink as well as an extra tricool on the side.

Now I have just one tricool on my heatsink as well as the default case fans. It is still louder than my family's Dell 530 which annoys me, but whatever, I can overclock mine at least.

Also, what is the max temp you guys let your CPU's go to? I currently have mine at 3.35 at around 1.37v and without any heatsink fans it was getting up to the low 70's (under full load with ORTHOS). It was very quiet :) but that would be too hot for daily use wouldn't it? With a fan on the heatsink it stays below 65 full load, so I think that is definitely safe.

Do you have it set to S3 or S1 for the sleep mode?

I've tried all the settings, and haven't noticed much difference between any. It is really weird because so far I have tried "sleep", the red power button (stand-by, I think), and a sleep button on a vista sidebar gadget. All of them seemed to work perfectly the first five of ten times I used them. Then after that it would increasingly not work. And now they almost always don't work.

For me though it doesn't restart, it just goes to the login screen and after I login the display cuts out. I think it still works though, because I can hear sound. I thinks its a software issue, but I doubt its fixable (without reinstalling vista).
