k sorry i gotta laff about this one u said u and ur friends wich knew alot about computers are gonna take a course well pay real good atention in this course considering u dont know what an os is i know a hell of alot about computers and i cant build one maybe not as much as most people here on this forum but when i talk to my friends i sound liek a huge computer geek:o

but man thats to funny whats an os its ur operating system like windows xp for example

uummmm....will you have help building your comp because if you know this little about a computer, you should either get help or do some research. I don't mean to undermine your intelligence, just some constructive criticism so you dont make a huge mistake and screw something up. You dont want to blow that $600 by shorting something out and blowing something important. Also, even if you manage to put it all together, there is usually some BIOS tweaking to do in order for everything to run smoothly and error free.
Here is a good guide to get you started.
http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/pc-building/

Also, you may have 10 comp cases but if they are to old, ATX motherboards might not fit them. ATX is a term used to identify the form factor of a motherboard. ATX is the standard size for modern and sometimes older motherboards.
An OS is an Operating System, this would be Windows 2000, XP, Mac OSX, Linux. Those are OSs. You will most likely want Windows XP.

wow thanks you guys hmm i have windows xp and i have the umm windows xp cd disc thing. and yea my dad he is pretty smart with comptuers knows a bunch about computers and how to edit the bios i dont know any of that anyways yea ok

Pentium M is for laptops. I almost have everything setup, hold on a sec.

eVGA 133-P4-NF51-AX

Pentium D 930

eVGA Geforce 7600

LG 16X DVD±R DVD Burner

Antec TRUEPOWER TPII-480

EDIT: Thats around 590 $ after shipping & taxes & rebate. If you need to fit in an OS and case, you could jump down to a Pentium D 805 (which can be OCed to 3.x ghz!) or a lower ATI card.

EDIT: Ahh! Forgot the RAM. Brb...

For the RAM: If you can up your budget, get this: pqi TURBO 2gb. Damn nice at 100~ dollars and a half decent cas for DDR2.

If not, this will do fine. But I would get the 2gb.

To make room for the case and OS I would get the Pentium D 805. So after all that the total is a bit more then 600. Do you have an OS install disk?

Look around on pricegrabber and you could probably knock off 50-100$ by buying it from different places. That leaves room for a decent case, and your set.

o hmm i was planning on getting this motherboard the cheaper one which was the 2.66 ghz one for $109 [$79 after $30 mail in rebate] which was a good deal. and i was wodnerign is this motherboard or whatever a dual core processor whatever that is i just want one of thsoe so it is fast. i was looking at it again and reading the reviews and this one guy said that this motherboard wasn't good and it burnt out his processor with very little overclocking ieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee heres that link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813188004. should i pay a little more for the good one 3.0 ghz i think i should i better start saving up. alright man thanks so far.

i have these in my cart so far with the cheaper motherboard

http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Shopping/ShoppingCart.asp?submit=UpdateShipMethod i hope that link works but if it doesn't idk.

idk about the motherboard

i still need a case for my computer still looking for a nice one dont need led lights but led lights would be nice.i wanted a display in the front of the computer though displaying the tmeperature of the computer. hmm damn

with the 2.66 ghz cpu motherboard + the cd/dvd combo + video card + power supply and shit + computer case compatible with this mother board adds up to Subtotal: $572.95 the shipping using fedex 2nd day air since i live in hawaii the shipping is $92.46 for all this stuff. so the total comes out to Total: $665.41 . IF i minus the mail in rebates in only $565.41 shipping included. which is pretty good.

witht he 3.0 ghz cpu motherboard (Dual Core) + the cd/dvd combo + video card + power supply and shit + computer case compatible with this mother board adds up to Subtotal: $660.95 . the shipping using fedex 2nd day air since i live in hawaii the shipping is $85.31. so the total comes out to Total: $746.26. If i minus the mail in rebates its only $676.42.

which one should i go for? i want the 3.0 ghz dual core processor motherboard with everything else it will cost $111.01 more than if i bought the 2.6 ghz motherboard with everything else. idk tricky but hmmm:D

and the case i got is a ATX MIDTOWER (which is compatible with ATX MOTHERBOARDS AND MICRO ATX MOTHERBOARDS) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16811119068

HERES THE LINK TO THE 3.0 GHZ CPU DUAL CORE MOTHERBOARD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819116238

HERES THE LINK TO THE 2.66 GHZ CPU MOTHERBOARD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813188004

I know the 2.66 ghz cpu motherboard is an ATX Because it says. I dont know if the 3.0 ghz cpu one is ATX or not. can someone please help me on that one. because if the 3.0 ghz cpu motherboard is not an ATX or whatever and cant fit in my case im not going to get it.
