Making Web Sites Look Cool!

I've been trying figure out how other people get graphics for their sites that look like they have a shine too it, for example the bluish purple background on this site. I'm wondering how I can do that. Can anyone help?

It's really all about Java and PHP and more. HTML is rather basic.

Now, there are some good looking sites that still run on simply HTML that use many images. It really depends on the content and all on what you should use. PHP would be easier to update with less errors, but harder to make over all(unless you just use a premade site ;) )

A lot of users tend to create their own backgrounds by using Digital Art programs like Macromedia Fireworks. These can be costly but they are some of the best programs. I would download a trial of Adobe Photoshop from www.download.com and get a background and then apply some Blur or Watermarks to it. That should do the trick.

True

Adobe Photoshop is very good. If you can get hold of version 7 for example, it will cost you much less and still perform very well. I think what you are referring to is the gradient. There is a special tool in Photoshop for making those. You choose color one and color two and bingo! It does the rest for you.

JAN :D

just a quick note to shreypuranik2005. Blur and Watermark wont create an outcome that looks anything like the top bar of computerforum.com

I've been using Flash MX lately and I like it. You can make some good animations with a little practice. It's relatively expensive howevever I'm sure you can find a free trial somewhere. I've never used Fireworks, however I assume it's somewhat similar to Flash?

I really hate flash MX. In fact most of macromedia software isnt that good. Gove me microsoft or adobe any day.

Actually i take that back, Dreamworks is pretty impressive if you know what you're doing in it.
