malfunctioned usb port?

I'm not sure if this post is in the right place...

But my laptop has 3 usb ports and I think on of them has malfunctioned because it is making a noise pretty much all the time, or when the laptop is moved. the noise is like a "du dum" sound and it is pretty annoying when it keeps doing it.

I was just wondering if there is any way I can fix this?

Greatly appreciate any help/suggestions

Then it definately sounds like you have a bad port. Really not much you can do since its a laptop besides get the motherboard replaced but might not be cost efficient.
 
the laptop is fairly old, but everything else works just fine. It has never been dropped to my knowledge, but I did once have it fixed as it completely stopped working, and I think it was opened up.
 
I have just noticed an icon on my task bar that says one of the USB devices attacbed to this computer has malfunctioned. then it says unknown device :/
 
Most likely you have a short in one of the leads going to the usb port. Without someone actually opening it back up and looking there is no way to tell.
