Manual Limit?

I've been starting games up recently and I've been getting a message on my monitor that says OUT of Sync. The computer can handle it but my monitor can't handle the refresh rate at the higher up resolutions that i want to play at.

Is there a way to limit the refresh rate when I start up a game?



Max Resolution: 1680 x 1050 / 60 Hz
Max Sync Rate (V x H): 75 Hz x 81 kHz
Video Bandwidth: 146 MHz
Response Time: 5 ms

Does the particular game have a safe mode setting where you can get into it and then manually change the settings? 60Hz is usually the max an LCD monitor can display at it's native (highest) resolution.

Its done this with Left 4 Dead and Fallout 3 so far.
