Manually connect to a network

Hello everyone!

My friends and I set up a wireless network and I am having trouble connecting to it. He is not broadcasting the network, so I went to manually connect to the router and entered in all the information to bring it up. I cannot get my computer to locate the network, and don't know why. My other friends that are sharing this network are all able to connect and we can't figure out why I can't. I have an HP laptop. Any ideas?

Operating system? Software used to connect? If the network is being broadcasted, you should be able to select it and connect that way. Manually connecting to wireless networks is usually a major pain...
 
I'm using windows vista. I have a school issued software we have to use to connect. It's called cisco clean access agent. Everyone else connects through this I just can't seem to do it.
