Is there a list of reliable manufacturers anywhere. Like ones that make great product for the price, or overpriced, or ones to avoid? Im hoping to build a computer soon, so im trying to learn.

Antec, Cooler master, Lian li, Thermaltake, NZXT, Asus, Zalman, OCZ, Patriot, Corsair, Crucial, Mushkin, G.skill, Wintec, Western digital, Seagate, Samsung, Fujitsu, Hyundai, Viewsonic, AG Neovo, Acer, Gigabyte, EVGA, Intel, AMD, XFX, BFG, ATI, PNY, Creative, Logitech, Microsoft, Vantec, and Saitek

those are some of the better brands, there are alot more too

Those are just brands, not necessarily "better" brands. Each company has their ups and their downs. Years ago MSI would never have been thought of as a good company, the same could be said for Western Digital and Seagate. But now MSI, WD, and Seagate are all trusted brands. What I'm meaning to say is that when you are going to build a computer do some research on the parts you're looking to buy from multiple companies. Find out if the part has good customer reviews or if they've had any major problems in/with production. And as always, you can post your selection here to see what other members have to say about it, they might also be able to help you save money/find a part you didn't think was better, or didn't think existed for a lower price.

What Lax said is very true, and not even all the particular parts from companies are all good. For instance, most of HP's digital cameras are pretty crappy imo, while most of their printers and all-in-ones are pretty good. So it really comes down to the particular item/part...

Used to be good, not so much anymore with computer hardware, however for LCD's they're still a top runner in my book.

Bad parts then, somewhat better parts now, I hope this was just word of mouth.

That's like saying Mitsubishi or Daewoo (who by the way make cars, guns, Monitors, ram, appliances, and almost anything else you can think of) I just tossed 10 sticks of Hyundai ram because they were failed so hard.

Cheap, but effective, not always the best, not usually the worst. Used to be a time (like WD or seagate) when their parts weren't worth shit.

My 7900 GS is on a PNY card and it's holding up okay. That's not to say that 50,000 PNY cards have crapped out but I can at least vouch for this one. I'd probably buy their products again.

Exactly. Companies have their own strengths and weaknesses in relation to their product lineups. Thermaltake, for example, make some great cooling products and cases, but their power supplies are a mixed bag - some good, some terribly overrated.

You'll find that some of the stickies in the various sections of the forums contain some information as to reliable brands an specific recommendations for each component.
