MASSIVE price drop on i7-970

Makes it more attractive...are you kidding me, I would sooner build a full computer for £454

950 is still the best option by miles because of it being less than half the price, even if you do lose 2 cores. Hex core processors are 2007's quad core processors - pointless. Nothing utilises 6 cores, at least nothing that a mainstream user or enthusiast would use, so why spend money on it other than for bragging rights?

Better off waiting for hex cores to be of some use, then buy one for a fraction of the price of what they are now, but get a hall of a lot more power

I still think the 960 & 970s are overpriced even after been reduced.

Intel Core i7 940 Bloomfield at $290 United States currency is a better deal than the i7 960 or 970 presently. I agree with Nevakonaza that the price is still too high.

That 950 looks like a sweet deal I must say. Initially I was turned off of intel because of their high prices, i'm happy that they are starting to come down. Never thought i'd see a 6 core i7 for under $1000, very cool. The main two reasons that attracted me to 6 core processors is future proofing and music production. If I was not into those things I would probably use a 4 core. I do play a good number of games, but everything so far doesn't require more than 2 cores to run smooth. If I ever built an intel system i'd probably be picking between the 950 and 970, but that's just me.

990X should be promising, the higher bin will hopefully bring some nice clocks.
I'm really happy for the i7-970 drop, finally the intel six-cores are semi-affordable.
