Master/Slave hard drive questions

I understand how to physically do this...the installation is simple.

My question is can my slave drive have an operating system already installed on it?

What I mean is I have a machine with 1tb already in it. I have an old hard drive I pulled out of a machine I used to have. Its only 80 gb but has a lot of stuff on it I don't want to lose.

Can I have a slave drive smaller than my master drive that has windows xp stored on it while my master drive has windows 7 on it?

Move the jumper on the harddrive to slave and it should let you do it then take the stuff you want off, format it, put it back.
