Matching FSB

I'm planning a build for fun and I was wondering how you match the CPU, Mobo and Memory. I checked NewEgg on the LGA 775 Mobos have FSB's of 1333/1066MHz. I know what the FSB is, but how to you find a good CPU, Mobo, and RAM combo? Thanks!

the speeds do not necessarily have to match if you get a 1066 fsb mobo you can use 667 ram and so on. this goes for the cpu also

its simple. there are no sets that work better then any other, just good parts. if you have a processor that runs at 1333mhz fsb, and you dont plan on overclocking, then a set of 667mhz ram will make a perfect 1:1 ratio.

if you do overclock and you get an fsb of 1600mhz, then ddr2 800mhz ram would make a perfect 1:1 ratio.

Oh I forgot to mention, this is just for hypothetical build in general. I'm planning on doing one next year or so. I think I've taught myself how to install all of the hardware components, I just need to learn how to pick them out. So considering RAM has a double data rate, the FSB on the motherboard just has to match double the frequency of the RAM? This also might only pertain to the 775 socket, but what did the specs mean by a FSB 1333/1066MHz for the CPU? Is that just either/or? Thanks!

oh. well, processors like the e4500 use an fsb of 800mhz to get their clock speed. an e6600 uses an fsb of 1066mhz to get its clock speed, and an e8400 uses 1333mhz to get its clock speed. its all to do with higher bandwidth.

its just saying that the motherboard will support processors that use 1066mhz fsb and 1333mhz fsb.

Okay that makes sense. Well I was just checking the i7 processors on NewEgg and the FSB isn't mentioned in the specs. I suppose they all run on the same FSB with different multipliers then? No need to consider mobo compatibility?

I think that intel has transitioned away from the FSB now, and now it uses the QuickPath Interconnect, which you can overclock similarly to the fsb of socket 775, etc. With the i7 i dont think you necessarily need to have certain memory speeds for the best effeciency.

I match CPU FSB with the Board FSB, not the RAM frequency.

True the i7 has no FSB. The memory controller is on the chip now.
