Max Overclocking Speed

What is the max amount of overclocking you can perform on your chip. Can you go beyond a full 1 GHZ of the original speed? How much will cooling affect your OC ability and will a water cooling system allow you to OC more?

Certain processors overclock better than others. Of course, it also depends on your cooling method and other such factors.

I can get my 2.66ghz Northwood to 3.54ghz with stock cooling. I might be able to reach a 1ghz OC if i had it watercooled.

On the second one the reason my ram isnt synced with my fsb is cuz i was tryin to see how far i could OC it, and that was my old DDR500 ram, so i didnt get to OC it : (

The amount you can overclock depends on:
1. The type of processor you have
2. Which production week or "code" your processor is
3. Your motherboard (what overclocking options it has)
4. Your cooling system
5. Lastly, individual processors even inside the same production week vary as far as overclocking goes.

So the most helpful tip is to tell us your processor, and we will be able to give a general area where you might be able to overclock to.

Can you go beyond a full 1 GHZ of the original speed?

Not many processors can go a full 1 Ghz beyond their stock speeds. However, the Pentium D 805 can often be overclocked from 2.66 Ghz to nearly 4.0 Ghz with adequate cooling.
