max processor and bus speed?

greetings,

... i have a dell b110 p.o.s. desktop :) that i would like to get an upgraded processor for. i am told (unless the info i got was incorrect) that the max this board will take is a 3.02 533 buss.

....if i were to throw in a 3.06 800ghz bus, does it seem for certain that my board will "puke it out" so-to-speak?

...if i did obtain a 3.02 but at 800ghz bus, would my board do the same with that because of the difference in bus?..........thanks!

If the board can run with an 800MHz bus P4, it will run at 533MHz so you would be effectively underclocking it

...thanks for the reply..i have very little info on this unit other then someone gave it to me new in the box...

....let me see if i understand you......if i put in a 3.06 at 800bus and the board is only capable of 533buss, then the speed of the processor will not actually be 3.06?....

A friend has a Dimension 2400 and he wanted to play the new flight sim, he could play 2002. He wanted a graphics card put in, I opened the case looked towards the PCI slots and said nope. He got pissed and knocked it off of his desk. Dell wants to keep you from gaining knowledge and coming back for more.

If you could get a 3.06 @ 800 bus (you can't, but that's not the point) and put it on a 533 bus board, the speed would be slower. Any processor is only the right frequency at a certain bus speed.
