I have an older Gateway desktop, Series E-3600. I installed a 500GB IDE hard drive but it would not work. I then set up a partition for 160GB NTFS. The partition was designated C: by Windows XP Pro and works with no problems whatsoever.
However, I'm now left with 340GB of unpartitioned (and unused) disk space. I would like to use some (or all) of the unpartitioned space. It appears my PC will work with at least 160GB, but less than 500GB.
Is there a way to find out the maximum hard drive capacity for my computer or, for that matter, any computer?
I do not have the documentation that came with this Gateway E-3600. And, as far as I know, Windows XP does not include a tool that will identify maximum hard drive capacity.
