Maximum tempatures

Hey,

I've just bought a zotac 9800GT, EVGA 7550i FTW motherboard, MGE XG Dragon Case, Thermal take Golden ORb II for my CPU Cooler and other goodies. However when my computer is just sitting there in idle, my computer reaches these temperatures.

Motherboard: 96 degrees C (205F)
GPU: 64 degrees C (147F)

When playing crysis the graphics card reaches between 90-100C (194 -212F)

I was wondering:

Am I damaging my graphics card when playing at such high temperatures?

What would the maximum suitable tempatures for a motherboard and graphics card that won't decrease its lifetime and wont damage my goods?

Are these temperatures too high? Would I need to buy a case fan?

Thank you.

Did you build this pc yourself? What PSU do you have? Did you correctly apply thermal paste to the CPU (assuming thats what you mean by motherboard), what case airflow do you currently have?

And yes, that's way, way too high.

yeah i build it myself, PSU is 650W SLI ready . however I am using it's 4 pin CPU input instead of the a 8 pin that is needed. So that means no SPU overclocking or SLI. But that wouldn't affect the temperature would it? yeah thermal paste is applied. However, i only have one case fan in, and two fans for out (one from the PSU). The CPU has a huge heatsink with fan (Thermatake Golden ORB II).

I think i need a 80mm case fan to blow more cool air in.

Hmm.. Never mind .. about the mother board being 96C ... I think the sensor on the program is buggy, because on another better program it says the system temperature is 40C

I hope so. If 96C was real you would have burnt the CPU real fast. I run 48-50 idle and 58-62 loaded. If I knocked down the OC to stock I am sure I would be back to 38-40 for CPU temp.

yeah true. But my graphics card still can get to 100C, I opened the case and put a desk fan facing the graphics card which helps it keep it down to a max of 75C.

But what really is a good temperature that i can max my OC while not affecting the graphics card's lifetime?

I've heard nvidia chipsets run hot but that's rediculous.

Again, I've heard of 9800GTs running fairly hot (in the 85C range) without trouble but most people replace the stock heatsink with a good one that drops it to the 75C range or even cooler.

Don't worry about the motherboard... it was wrong... The program says 96C but two other programs says its around 40C

Yeah, i know speedfan errors on nvidia boards(i have a 790i and it does the same errornous temperature), but download evga precision, and set your fan to 100%, unfortunately the nvidia cards come with fans set to 35% for some reason...

The fan (on my graphics card) at 100% wouldn't wear out over time?

it would, but its not supposed to...

Imaine running something at 100% all the time. It would get tired very quickly.

Set it to 40 - 50%. That should drop your temps a lot
