hey
what is the maxium hard drive size windows can see..
i have service pack 2 installed
i recently got a 720gb hard drive...
will windows see all of it
(i know i wont get all 720gb maybe 700gb)
but will windows be able to see the 700gb?
i heard that it can only see 137gb, but is that with service pack 1?, doesnt service pack 2 fix that?

Ha ha, this is about the biggest mis-conception around, WinXP w/SP1 CAN recognise and use more than 137Gb on drives.

The feature that controls this is called 48-bit LBA, if this isnt enabled then you dont get over 137Gb, if its enabled then your pretty much free to shove in any drive you care to name. (You will need a fairly up to date BIOS though, anything in the last 4-6 years should do fine)

I could explain it all to you, but my memopry might not be as accurate as this OFFICIAL MICROSOFT DOCUMENT - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303013/

Its not as if its some big secret either, but people are still under the mis-information that it cant be done in SP1

To put it simple, window swill reconize and be able to utilize the whole drive...

lol well ive never seen any comp that supports that much lol, well i bet noone here has, but arent the biggest single hd 1000gb, and cant you only have 4 hooked up?
so i thought 4tb was like maximum for the average computer

Forgot to mention some boards have 8 Sata sockets, plus theres 4 IDE connections, you can add like 5 Raid cards of 4/5 sockets each, 6/8 USB ports and you can put usb splitters on them so you can fit even more drives on
