Hi all
I have just got given a 40gb maxtor 'diamond plus 8' hard drive and have been building a custom pc from scratch using this as the HD. But I can't get XP PRO or win 2000 on to it as it says 'setup can not access this disk'.
I have tried installing linux on it and it said 'input/output error' Check my web page for screen shots.

I have conected it to other pc's which are running XP they install it automatically but then after that there is no evidence of the HD even being there! If you go into device manager it says that this device is working properly. It does not appear in disk manager either.
Can anyone help me?
