Maxxing out my hardware

I really wanna get the most outta my Vid card. I can't play a darn thing on max graphics unless it's old as hell. I have to put The Witcher Enhanced WAY down in order to run smooth in cut scenes and stuff. Is over-clocking the answer? Can I over-clock my Vid Card and my CPU to run games at high graphics levels?

OC'ing your card will certainly help. I can't guarantee you'd be able to play games on the highest settings though.

But, Yeah, OC'ing your CPU and GPU will certainly help you out!

Are there any instructions you guys can point out to me, for use in OC'ing my CPU and GPU? I've never done it before. And the main reason I'm going for this is because I can't afford another card of any kind. :(

CPU will have to be done in your BIOS, but the GPU can be done with a program.

Google EVGA Precision, it's a great program.

But first read up on some Overclock Tutorials.

I can use EVGA even though my card is Sparkle? Or is it just a name? Can you guide me to some decent tutorials?

I think I am going to ditch the over-clocking. It is very dangerous and time-consuming, but seems to yield invisible results that only a program which is designed to read them can find. Such as riva tuner. Over-clocking seems sadly over-rated. Guess the only way to play games decent is to spend more money on another card. Even though I have amazing gear.... :(

So, really, you do say that over-clocking is the solution? Well, I really need a good guide on how to do so safely. I don't think that using coolbits is the answer. I did some research and that seems to place even higher rick on everything. Rivatuner Beta 13 and ATI Tool seems to be the best bets. But I need a guide.

Find a program that works, and just go up a few mhz at a time. Run a test for your card to see if it will artifact, or anything. once you know its stable, up it up a few more mhz and keep going until you are happy with it.

Do the same with with your CPU in the bios.

It really isnt dangerous at all. Ive been doing it for years now, since my very first computer. Just watch your temperatures, specially once you start raising the volts up a little.

EDIT: Im in an OC mood now. Gonna see how far I can push my q6600.

Can anybody reccomend a program for OCing and one for watching temp? I had PC probe with my ASUS board, but it's inaccurate. And the NVIDIA monitor SUCKS. Voltage, heat and everything is way off. I need a good guide too. Please god, somebody point out these things so I can over-clock before I'm 80. thanks

You shouldnt have to overclock the cpu, but overclock the card with rivatuner. Ive got my 8600gt at 670-680 core. It maxes out at around 700. Without voltage mod it wont go higher. Use speedfan for watching temp. What games are you trying to play?

Theres a difference between being able to run a game on max settings and acually being able to play on max settings, so what if u have on max settings it doesn't mean nothing but are you acually able to move smoothly without fps lag thats what counts. Yea I can run COD2 on dx9 on max on my ati radeon x1600 pro but can I play it on max no I lag like hell. Overlocking your 8600gt wont cut it, depending on the game you are playing. You will need to upgrade to 8800gt or next level up. As I play and compete in competetive league such as cal - m etc I don't run max settings I look for fps taking out as much junk as possible that the creater of the game put in to make the game run more smoothly with no fps drops etc. Plus to run max settings with no fps drop or lag I would need at least a 3000+ computer.

I've established that I need a new card. The largest question now is: Can I pay $100 and get a card that will be able to PLAY my games (mostly newer) ABOVE minimal settings and/or near max?

Um i play cod4 at 30fps outside and 60+ inside. If that isnt playable than i dont know what is. NO fps lag here.
