May have fried my motherboard while attempting to install RAM.

Hey Im new to upgrading computers and I think I may have screwed up my brothers PC. I had two 4 GB RAM sticks in and I wanted to add two DDR2 2 GB RAM sticks. I put them in, plugged in the computer, turned it on and smelled a weird smell. I belive I did not discharge the static before doing this and fried the motherboard. Please help me. My monitor does not detect the source and goes in to power saving mode when i turn on the screen with the computer on.

Try booting the pc with just one stick of ram, try this with all the sticks you have and try all the ram slots.
