maybe a mac?

Hello,

I recently decided that I want to sell my gaming computer and buy a laptop. My budget is about 1000 US dollars and I am interested in the intel core duo processor (1.66), 1 GB of RAM and a 100 GB HD. Although, as of recently I have been looking into macs and I was wondering if someone could help me out with specs of a mac that are compareable to the specs I listed above for the PC? Thank you very much, your help is very appreciated.

What is everyones thoughts on mac vs PCs. I will mostly be using the computer for movie viewing, listening to music, and any other basic things that college student needs to perform with their computer.
 
I think PCs are much more accepted then Macs and alot of software is not made for Macs I would stick with PCs just to be safe and the new windows is comming out soon.
 
You will probably end up spending more then $1,000 on a laptop with 1gb of memory since 256mb or 512mb is the usual. Common drive sizes for laptops are 40gb and 80gb. And the price of a laptop with those items plus the newer dual cored cpu would probably be over $1,500.
 
Big macs give me indigestion. But there are Windows programs that will run on Mac as well as some Apple/Mac programs that will run on Windows as well. Often you have to use one or more from one to run something on the other. For example Quicktime and iTune are often required for running various multimedia players on a Windows machine. Apple/Mac or MS will depend on the operating system as well as the softwares you plan to be running.

The one in your sig? I think you'd have to sell a couple to afford a G5, unless it's got next to nothing in it.

I agree with what was said easier. With a budget of $1000 a Mac iBook or Powerbook or something might be a tad of a stretch. PC laptops are alot cheaper, $500 can get you a pretty good laptop. $1000 would probably get you everything if you buy the RAM seperate.
 
I got a Mac Mini, and I'm playing on it now. They're pretty nice. High quality, next to silent(at least this one is...) However, this is definetly not a high performace machine. I'm pretty sure even my Sempron out performs this little guy in most any task... I have Photoshop CS on it and my Laptop, and it's definetly faster on the lappy...

Now, I have yet to use an intel based one, but I have heard the G5 is faster and sometimes slower(depending on the app) than the G4... And on top of all that, SOFTWARE :P Good luck finding what you want...

I guess so, maybe I'll keep the PC as a family computer...
 
yes yes a cheaper mac is not usually a better one than a pc.

they are good for college if you spend a bit more though
 
One more question. Which pentium M prosessor is equal to, or outperforms the core duo(1.66ghz)? Or should I stick with the core duo? Or should I go with a amd 64 turion? Which one of those outperforms or is equal to a core duo(1.66ghz)? Thanks ahead of time!
