I am looking into getting a Macbook Pro (previous generation C2D/9600M GT). Going on this info, and overlooking the PPR (price performance ratio), will this be a worthy investment. the plan is to Bootcamp with XP (just to play my favorite video game on the move again, its not mac supported).

Basically, the question is, is the learning gap steep from coming off of Windows 7 (rants endlessly about his hatred of 7) or XP onto OSX? And quality wise, will this last a while? (*insert rant about acers failed GT540m and price to fix*)

What will you be using the Laptop for?
And also make sure the config clears the minimum specs of the game which you will be playing.

And learning a new OS is fun.
Initially you will have to google some issues like how to do this on a macbook and etc, but within a week you will be fluent in using it for daily basis and then comes the other stuff, stuff which we learned on Windows OS while facing problems, we googled them or asked around on the forum, that kind of stuff you cannot learn before hand and will only do when you face a problem.I wouldn't worry about that kind of stuff.Since it happens with every new software. :D

it clears minimum specs.

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
Pentium III 600 or 100% compatible
128MB RAM (256 MB for Windows XP strongly recommended)
250 MB HD Space (allows for swap file)
16 MB RAM Direct3D/OpenGL compatible video accelerator card
DirectX 8.1 or later
DirectX compatible sound card

other than those, I really will only be doing basic stuff. Browsing the web, word processing, probably get some neat games or such from app store, and would definitely put Finale! 2010 on there.

Then a Macbook Pro will be nice for you.
From my short(Cousin's) experience of using a Macboo Pro it had an amazing battery life, and you will have to change some settings to make it windows like.
I do not know about failing of parts and Apple's other support.
But I know one thing for sure, accessories and getting a macbook repaired sure ain't cheap.

well, I really dont want OSX to be windows like.
as for failing parts, as long as it last a couple (2-3) of years, I will be happy. My poor acers GPU is fried somehow (OCd for a bit but temps never got above 70*C (as it didnt really help my games, they were hitting 70 FS at a minimum anyway, except for bfbc2 which was a processor issue) and its not even 3 months old yet. Warranty is a no go (never registered!!!)

I remember your OC GPU thread ;).

When I mean windows like, I mean double tap on the touchpad for double clicking rather than pressing the mousepad again and again and then OSX lion has invert scrolling by default, which you will need to change etc etc.

oh, ok.

And I doubt that I will be getting Lion just yet. Its got 10.5.7 right now, and it will need 10.6.6 to upgrade to 10.7.1, so it will be $29 to get ready for the $29 lion upgrade. But that still equates to less than a windows upgrade :)

How much are those MBP running for these days? I think that was the only generation of the Mac's I thought were worth there money.

Im getting it from a local shop for $500, paid at $50 a month for 10 months, with a full (parts and labor) warranty of 3 years. It sounds so far like it will be a good deal. I just wanted to be sure that it was going to be worth it before I commit to it.
