mcafee security..other software needed?

Hi Guys, I apologise in advance because it's probably an easy answer but I'm clueless when it comes to internet security.
I automatically get Mcafee with my internet provider and in the past have downloaded everything going but they interfered with each other.

i've heard of adaware or avg??

Do i also need other programs installed and how often is it best to check for viruses?

I was in a similar scenario to you, i had McAfee that comcast gave me for free, but it used too much resources so i had to move to another one. I went with AVG and im glad I did. It uses less resources and is a better overall anti-virus and its free.

AVG 8.0 is very good.

So you recommend deleting Mcafee and gettin AVG. I'm guessing they'll conflict with each other otherwise.

Well, wait until McAfee's subscription runs out and then uninstall it, but you can put AVG on now.

If you're going to install AVG, remove McAfee first or at least disable its real-time protection, or they WILL conflict with each other.
