McAfee vs. Avast

My friend is complaining about his mcafee slowing his computer down a lot, especially after he just updated. I use avast and it has been really effective for me. Would it be worth changing over or not. I've read McAfee can be a pain in the ass to completely remove.

I have used numerous AV applications and so far have found Avast to be one of the best. I would recommend it. Although McAfee is good AV, I just prefer Avast.

I've tried both and prefer AVG as it's free, but I think anti virus shield (by kapersky, licensed to AOL) is very good and typically finds more.

However, this doesn't seem to hold on the av-comparatives website.
 
I know this is off-topic, but AVG Free Edition works great for me. It has heuristic analysis and on-close scanning (optional, it scans any file that is being opened or closed/saved). Doesn't slow down PC very much.
